Surf Club 2018 starts the 1st of May!
If you’ve seen a load of excitable kids descending onto Mawgan Porth beach, on your lovely Tuesday evening stroll, around 6pm, that’s us!
Tuesdays 6pm till 7.30pm
Tuesday the 1st March will see the start of our 11th year running our weekly local kids surf club. It has been so popular, last year’s busiest session saw 60 kids from Mawgan Porth, St. Mawgan, St. Eval, and surrounding areas this side of Newquay, come to Kingsurf surf school every week to develop their surfing skills.
It’s great to see some fresh faces every year, helping kids from 7 years old and above learn to surf. We’ve seen so many people become more confident in the sea, as the weeks have passed. Every season we also see the older crew getting better and better at surfing. They are catching steeper and bigger waves, and making informed decisions in just a split second.
What’s new for 2018?
This year we are hoping to add a few curve-ball sessions. Body-surfing is a great way of helping people (adults, as well as kids!) get used to being in the water. Not just floating on top of the water, but enjoying being tumbled by the waves and feeling the power they possess, boosts water-confidence massively. We hope to also carry out more beach safety sessions, explaining rip-currents, potential dangers you can find on the beach, safe places to swim/surf, even letting everyone try out a water rescue themselves.
Also new this year, we have just acquired a new quiver of soft-top surfboards, great for all abilities and conditions. This selection of Softech surfboards will be a welcome addition to what we already have on offer at our Tuesday night kids surf club, especially for those little rippers who want to try a smaller and more responsive board will a lot of them are getting really good now!
So if you live nearby, head down to see us at about 5:50pm on 1st May for a fun-filled 90minutes. It’s still only £5 per session. All us instructors will be doing the waves-dance to the Swell Gods, in the hope that they’ll bless us with warm sunshine and epic waves for our first session of the year. (And even if it’s raining, we’ll be glad to be getting back in the sea with the groms after a long winter away!)
