It’s a life style thing!
The driving force behind kingsurf as a business has never been money. I wanted to carry on living the lifestyle i was living at the age of 18. Surfing everyday, living by the beach and not having the restrictions of a corporate job in the city. Ive probably got a mild form of ADHD which would of made it almost impossible to sit at a desk all day anyway!
Teaching surfing has lot’s of lifestyle benefits. It has enabled me to travel and teach all over the world introducing me to some amazing people and cultures and It allows us to stay fit and healthy.
Surfing is a very social sport and there is always something fun going on amongst the surfing community.

One of the main reasons i love my job is getting to meet all of the customers which are always in a good mood and up for having fun. It takes a certain person to want to learn to surf as it’s not something you can pick up in a day. You can’t beat sitting out the back on a sunny 2-3ft clean cornish day with people wanting to learn something that you are so passionate about.
We can’t loose really, the customer goes away happy because he or she has learnt something new and is happy with their achievement. The natural surroundings are breath taking and we are exercising!
We’re coming up to our 10th year of working at kingsurf now and i cant see my self ever giving it up. It’s a lifestyle more than a job!
This year my plan is to take full advantage of living on this amazing island surrounded by awesome surf spots and incredible scenery and to help us do that the awesome guys at basecampers have converted stan the kingsurf van into a surfers dream mobile home. Which will allow us to wake up right next to the surf ready for the dawn patrols.
These guys share a very similar ethic to us and we love how passionate they are about their businsees and the quality of their work but also the lifesyle it alsows them to live.
